Background of the Study
Digital comedy skits have gained popularity in Ogbomosho North as a form of entertainment and cultural commentary. These short, humorous videos circulate widely on social media platforms, influencing public perception of cultural norms and values (Adebisi, 2023). By blending humor with social critique, digital comedy skits offer audiences a unique perspective on everyday issues, challenging stereotypes and provoking thought (Ogun, 2024). The interactive nature of these skits, including viewer comments and shares, amplifies their cultural impact, fostering dialogue about tradition, modernity, and identity (Balogun, 2023). However, while these skits can serve as vehicles for social change and cultural reflection, they may also perpetuate certain biases or oversimplify complex issues. This study critically examines how digital comedy skits shape cultural perceptions in Ogbomosho North, assessing both their positive contributions to cultural discourse and the potential drawbacks associated with satirical representation (Adebisi, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
Despite their popularity, the influence of digital comedy skits on cultural perception in Ogbomosho North remains underexplored. There is uncertainty regarding whether these skits contribute to a progressive understanding of cultural identity or reinforce negative stereotypes. The potential for oversimplification and biased humor calls for a thorough evaluation of their cultural impact. This study seeks to address the gap by investigating the extent and nature of influence these digital comedy skits exert on public cultural perceptions (Ogun, 2024).
